In the past, U2 tended never to write songs. We worked within a sound and just manipulated that —improvising and jamming, working with textures and tones and sketching some words around them. Then we heard about this thing called the song, and we thought it would be nice to have a few of them. So Larry, who is probably the most song-oriented member of U2, nudged us in that direction. We’d just come back from an extremely long and exhausting tour and all the routine involved in that. Larry just wanted to get the guys together in his room and simply play music. So we started writing songs. We sat down and wrote the chords and the words. After all these years, we decided to come clean… Bono, à propos de The Joshua Tree
