Like The Unforgettable Fire the image of a desert can also be quite positive. Even though the mood of a lot of the songs is very bleak, there is also a feeling of pure joy in there. I was worried that it might all seem too arid, but there is still a feeling of coming up for air. There’s a funny side to it too. I find it almost embarrassing talking about this thing called The Joshua Tree! Larry was too embarrassed to tell his girlfriend that we were going to call the LP after this clump of prickles in the desert. The thought of the world waiting for The Joshua Tree is a bit ridiculous. It sounds as if it will sell about three copies. Bono, à propos de The Joshua Tree
